Evolving Concepts in the Diagnosis and Management of May–Thurner Syndrome

چکیده
May–Thurner syndrome (MTS) is caused by compression of the left common iliac vein by the right common iliac artery, resulting in symptoms of venous obstruction, insufficiency, and thrombosis. It is also known as iliac vein compression syndrome or Cockett’s syndrome.1 McMurrich initially reported association of common iliac vein compression with increased incidence of left lower extremity deep vein thrombus, thought to be congenital.2 Ehrich postulated acquired degenerative obstruction at the origin of the left common iliac vein.3 Subsequently, Mayand Thurner described compression of the left common iliac vein from the right common iliac artery, resulting in mural spur formation.4

May-Thurner syndrome, an uncommon diagnosis for a common disease: a case report and review of the literature
May-Turner syndrome is a relatively uncommon anatomical variation in which patients develop iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis (DVT) due to venous occlusion. In this syndrome, the left common iliac vein is compressed against the fifth lumbar vertebra by the right common iliac artery. The real incidence/prevalence of May-Turner syndrome is not precisely known, but it is estimated to be between 22 ...

Although aplastic anemia (AA) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) are separate entities with different management, distinction between the two can be difficult on morphological basis due to hypocellularity of bone marrow. MDS is one of the serious complications of AA. Karyotyping is definitive in the diagnosis of MDS. Better and robust investigations like 18F-Fluoro-deoxy-Glucose Posi...
متن کاملMay Thurner syndrome revealed by left calf venous claudication during running, a case report
May Thurner syndrome is relatively unknown to physicians, its management is well standardized and the outcomes of treatment are satisfactory in the short to medium term.We report the case of a patient who suffered from venous claudication during running which impaired their quality of life, decreased their athletic performance and resulted in a career change. May Thurner syndrome diagnosis was ...
متن کاملDiagnosis and Treatment of May-Thurner Syndrome
In 1908, McMurrich described the presence of strictures in the common iliac vein that were believed to be responsible for the increased incidence of left leg deep-vein thrombosis (DVT). This syndrome would eventually become known as iliac vein compression syndrome or May-Thurner, Cockett’s syndrome, or nonocclusive iliac vein lesion. Left iliac vein compression from the contralateral right comm...

Study Design Case report. Objective Although May-Thurner syndrome or iliac vein compression syndrome is covered in the vascular literature, it remains absent from the orthopedic and neurosurgery literature and has not been previously reported to occur in concordance with spine surgery. We review the salient points of disease presentation, diagnosis, and treatment. Methods A 33-year-old woman wa...
